Damion Thomas is no way surprise with his World Junior equalling 110m hurdles performance at Jamaica Championships on Saturday (23 June).

“I knew coming in, with the training and the times I’m hitting previously in the season that I could come here and do this (run this fast), so I just want to thank God for bringing me there safely,” said Thomas.

Thomas, who has been outstanding this season and finished third for LSU at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, posted a time of 12.99 seconds to win the event, matching the previous world best mark of France’s Wilhem Belocian, set in 2014.

Calabar’s pair of Orlando Bennett, who also went below the previous national record, with 13.00secs and 2017 World Youth Champion Dejour Russell, 13.26secs, were second and third respectively.

The 18-year-old sprint hurdler now turns his attention to the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

“My expectation is to execute the same way, come away with the victory and hopefully a new record.”
