Kevona Davis was in smashing form as she again confirmed her status as Jamaica’s top female junior sprinter.

Davis, on Thursday’s third day of the 2018 Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships, destroyed Anneisha McLaughlin’s 15-year-old record of 23.13 by running 22.92secs, a new Jamaican youth record.

The 16-year-old Davis, who had the field beaten from very early, had time to look around before cutting her speed some 15 metres out.

Kimberly Baker of Holmwood was a distance second in the heat, running 24.29.

However, Bridgette Campbell of St. Jago, 24.15, Selisa Palmer of Edwin Allen, semi-final 3 winner in 24.16 and Manchester High’s Kavia Francis, 24.24, are also through to Saturday’s final.

A ding-dong battle is expected in the Class 1 boys’ final as Calabar High’s duo of Christopher Taylor and Anthony Carpenter are set to battle to the line.
Taylor won his semi-final heat in 20.52, just minutes after Carpenter ran a personal best 20.57secs.

Petersfield High’s Ockera Myrie, 23.53 and Kasheika Cameron of Edwin Allen, 23.65, are the top two qualifiers in the Class 1 girls’ 200m dash.

Sachin Dennis of STETHS is the only Class 2 boy to run his semi-final under 21secs, his time 20.99.

Tina Clayton of Edwin Allen, 23.84secs, and Brianna Lyston of St. Jago, 23.86, are the top two Class 3 girls while Alana Reid of Hydel with 24.74 lead the Class 4 pack.

Bouwahjgie Nkrumi of KC, 22.33, is the top Class 2 boy.
