GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – American Olympic Games 200m champion Allyson Felix has expressed sadness at her late withdrawal from Saturday’s (14 May) Cayman Invitational meeting.

In April, Felix, who is recovering from a “minor” ankle injury, announced her withdrawal from the Doha Diamond League meet (6 May).

She, however, was still hoping to recover in time for the Cayman Invitational.

"Unfortunately, I'm still not fully healthy and will not be able to compete in Cayman,” said the champion athlete, who won 31 medals representing the USA, in a statement.

“I was looking forward to getting back on the track and know Cayman will be a great meeting,” added the four-time Olympic Games gold medallist, who was down to contest the 100m and 400m events at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Cydonie Mothersille-Stephens, the meet director, expressed sadness at Felix’s withdrawal, but wish her a speedy recovery.

“We are sorry she is not here to compete, but we wish her a speedy recovery and that she will be ready to defend her title in Rio 2016,” added Mothersille-Stephens, a former sprint star herself, who won the Commonwealth Games 200m title in 2010.
