Edwin Allen is very confident going in search of their third straight girls’ Champs title.
“Very confident at this stage,” was the answer from coach Michael Dyke when asked how his girls are looking forward to make it three straight.
“The girls are in high spirit and we are pretty much ready and rearing to go,” continued coach Dyke of his team that won titles in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Dyke, who won three titles with the Frankfield-based school, said “not at this point in time” to the question of injuries.
According to the Champs Preview Magazine, Edwin Allen should win by almost 100 points, 341 to St. Jago's 242, Hydel 242 and Holmwood 222.
Edwin Allen, according to the magazine, will score maximum points in three of the sprint relays – classes 2, 3 & 4. They will also get maximum points in the classes 1 and 3 1500m, while the 2000m steeplechase and class 3 800m should give them 15 points each.
Shellece Clark missed the Digicel Grand Prix final and Carifta Games Trials, but according to Dyke, “you will see her at Champs.”
As for the pressure level, the coach said his girls have showed they are “very relaxed” going into the five days of intense competition.
“I would say no pressure at all base on the feedback that I am getting and the way you can see them moving around, you don’t see that nervousness,” he added.
