St. Jago, Edwin Allen are champions of Central Region

St. Jago's boys and Holmwood's girls closed the two-day Central Champs show with victories in the Digicel Grand Prix 4x400m finals.

St. Jago won the male race in 3:11.70 to beat section-one winner Holmwood, 3:16.50, and heat 3 winner Edwin Allen, 3:18.42.

Holmwood's girls, despite a strong anchor leg from Edwin Allen’s Shannon Kalawan, crossed the line first with Chrissani May in 3:39.58. Edwin Allen took second in 3:41.45.

Meanwhile, St. Jago and Edwin Allen are the track and field kings and queens of Jamaica’s Central region.

Both teams won Digicel prizes of $250,000 each for winning the Central Athletics Championships, which ended at GC Foster College on Wednesday.

St. Jago boys, who sat out last year’s championships, returned to score a massive 421 points, 289 points more than their nearest rivals, Edwin Allen 132.

Holmwood, the only other school to score more than 100 points, finished third with 128.

Manchester High, last year’s winners, finished fourth with 65, Spaldings, 62, Garvey Maceo, 62, Bellefield, 59, Glenmuir, 57, Claude MKay, 51, and Jonathan Grant, 42.

On the female side, Edwin Allen beat Holmwood by 162 points, 480 to 318.

St. Jago's girls finished on 256, with Vere 224 and Hydel 200 the teams to score 200 or more points.

Manchester finished sixth with 98.5, Spaldings, 40, Dinthill, 22, Tacius Golding, 10, and Clarendon College, 8, rounded off the top-10 schools.
