Pan Am Games champion Cleopatra Borel and World Championships silver medallist Machel Cedenio were named Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year in Trinidad and Tobago.
Borel, who was winning her third straight and fifth overall, won the shot put at the Pan Am Games with a throw of 18.67m.
“I’d like to thank the fans of Trinidad and Tobago for motivating me and always giving me their support,” Borel said.
Cedenio, on the other hand, secured his award after impressive performances over the one lap event. He helped Trinidad and Tobago to silver in the men’s 4x400m at the Beijing World Championships.
He also won silver and then anchored the T&T men’s 4x400m team to gold at the Pan Am Games.
“My parents, they pushed me through my journey to my success today,” said Cedenio.
Also at the 18th Annual T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) Awards ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday night, track and field athletes dominated with five of the seven awards.
