Taylor wins WYC 400m Gold in 45.27

The men's 400m lived up to its expectations. The race for the gold was between Josephus Lyles (His father Kevin ran Collegiately for Seton Hall University in the early to mid 90's as well as the professional circuit) 45.46 pb-(USA) and Taylor (JAM). Lyles (Lane 3)  covered Taylor (Lane 4) in the early going. At the 200m it was clear that Lyles had a 5m advantage. As they rounded the straight, Taylor found yet another gear and powered past Lyles, slowing a bit at the finish line in a new WYL of 45.27. Keshun Reed 45.96 (USA) took the Bronze.

In the women’s 400m final Roxana Gomez 52.79 (CUB) managed to finish 5th while setting a new personal best and scoring crucial points for the Cuban contingent. The event belonged to the athlete from Bahrain, Salwa Naser 51.50, and who established a WYL with a very strong finish.

Contested earlier in the day was the opening round of the men's and women’s 200m. Shaniel English 24.23 (JAM), Brianne Bethel 24.32 (BAH), Trista Evelyn 24.48 (BAR) and Shellece Clark 24.63 (JAM) all got through safely. On the men's side, the Caribbean region's qualifiers include Xavier Angus 21.26 (JAM), and Edel Amores 221.46 (CUB),

In the field events, Cuba put on a great display, producing qualifiers in several disciplines. Yanna Armenteros 12.97m, qualified for the final of the women’s Triple Jump, Miguel Sanchez 56.15m lands into the discus final, Ayamey Medina 63.49m-hurled in to the Hammer Throw final with the 6th best throw. Napoles 16.13m earned the Gold while teammate Carbonel hop skipped and jumped his way to the Bronze medal.  Dominica's Tony Solis 15.30 finished 8th. Yoan Villa 13.69(CUB) finished 7th in the men's 110mh.
