LAUSANNE, Switzerland (EME News) – The 39th Athletissima will offer some top sprint clashes here on July 3.
In the men's 100m, Tyson Gay, who is returning from a one-year ban, faces fellow American Justin Gatlin, the fastest man this year at 9.88secs.
“Lausanne has always been one of my favourite meets, and I’m thrilled to have it be my opening meet of 2014,” said Gay.
The 200m will see the second fastest man ever over the distance Yohan Blake (19.26) against world leader and fellow Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade, who ran 20.13 last month. Both former St. Jago athletes were members of Jamaica's world record breaking 4×2 team in Bahamas last month.
Christophe Lemaitre and Churandy Martina. Another are also down for the 200m.
Again, in the men's 400m, Grenadian Kirani James, who shared the world leading mark 43.97 with American LaShawn Merritt, will once again face-off. Last week in Eugene, James nipped Merritt as both were credited with 43.97.
In the women’s events, Swiss athlete Selina Büchel will have a good opportunity to confirm her talent in the 800m against Kenyan runner Eunice Jepkoech Sum, the reigning World champion.
