The USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet, is set to deliver one of the most competitive track and field cards of the season on Sunday, June 14.
Sprint Events Loaded From Top to Bottom
The men’s 100m alone is worth the price of admission. Kenny Bednarek, Letsile Tebogo, Trayvon Bromell, and Christian Coleman are all entered, making it one of the deepest short sprint matchups of the year. On the women’s side, Sha’Carri Richardson leads the 100m field. Favour Ofili will have a busy day, as the Nigerian sprinter is scheduled to compete in both the 100m and 200m.
The 400m events also carry serious weight. Kirani James, Bryce Deadmon, and Chris Bailey will contest the men’s race. The women’s 400m features a largely American lineup led by Aaliyah Butler, Alexis Holmes, and Bailey Lear.
Hurdles and Middle Distance Highlight the Program
World Champion Cordell Tinch and Trey Cunningham will go head-to-head in the 110m hurdles. Dalilah Muhammad and Anna Cockrell, two of the top names in the event, are both entered in the 400m hurdles.
The middle-distance races shape up as compelling matchups as well. Josh Kerr, the 2023 World Champion at 1500m, drops down to the 800m to face Donavan Brazier and Brandon Miller. The women’s 1500m brings together Birke Haylom, Emily Mackay, Heather MacLean, and Saron Behre. Cole Hocker is entered in the 3000m, while Gabrielle Jennings and Courtney Wayment will compete in the 3000m steeplechase.
Field Events Round Out a Full Card
Several strong field event matchups are also on the schedule. Tara Davis-Woodhall and Claire Bryant headline the women’s long jump. In the shot put, Joe Kovacs leads the men’s entry list while Sarah Mitton and Chase Jackson compete on the women’s side.
The discus will feature Valarie Sion and Jorinde Van Klinken, two of the top throwers in the world. The hammer throw brings together Ethan Katzberg, Mykhaylo Kokhan, and Camryn Rogers, giving fans a strong group of competitors to watch across both the men’s and women’s events.
Sunday’s meet figures to be one of the premier domestic track and field events of the summer season.
