St Jago girls dominate Cross-Country Championships

St Jago girls made a clean sweep of the junior women's category at Sunday's Jamaica Cross-Country Championships held on the grounds of GC Foster College.

St. Jago dominated the top five placings of the 4K event with Monique McPherson taking top honours in 14 minutes 53.70 seconds. She was followed in by teammates Rushae Burrell (15:01.40), Chris Ann Lewis (15:03.10), Ophia Simmonds (15:04.20) and Connagelia Senior (15:17.10). The event was without traditional schools Edwin Allen, Holmwood, Vere, Manchester High and St. Elizabeth Tech.

Meanwhile, Shawn Pitter and Danielle James were top male and female in the senior category.

Pitter crossed the line in the men's 8K in 24 minutes, 51.90 seconds ahead of Kirk Brown 25:01.10 and Dwayne Graham 25:01.30 and Damion Bent 25:05.10.

In the female 6K, James of Mavis Bank Track Club won in 22 minutes 24.90 seconds ahead of Stephanie Barrett of Rusea's High 22:40.70, Molly-Ann Blake 24:33.10 and Raxcine Salmon 25:11.90, both of GC Foster College.

Obrian Frith of Holmwood took the junior boys 6K in 18 minutes, 48.80 seconds, ahead of Garfield Gordon of Mavis Bank Club 18:53.90, Romar Mundle 19:09.60 and Shevon Parkes 19:11.10, both of Bellefield High.

This year's NACAC Cross- Country Championships will be held in Mt. Irvin, Tobago, Trinidad & Tobago on February 22.
