Bralin Taplin runs his first race ever in Grenada where he won the men's 400m at the Grenada Invitational

BRAGANÇA PAULISTA, BRAZIL — Bralon Taplin and Levern Spencer won their respective events at the 32nd Grande Prêmio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo, which is part of the IAAF World Challenge on Sunday (8).

Olympic finalist Bralon Taplin of Grenada produced a season’s best of 44.67 seconds to win the men’s 400m and led a Caribbean 1-2 finish.

Deon Lendore of Trinidad and Tobago finished second in 45.54 secs with Brazil’s Hugo de Sousa taking third in 45.74.

Jamaica’s Steven Gayle was fifth in 46.16 and Guyana’s George Winston JAM grabbed fifth with a time of 46.52.

Spencer of St. Lucia won the women’s High Jump title with a clearance of 1.92m.

Spencer cleared 1.75 and 1.81 at her first attempts, while taking two tries to clear 1.86, three chances at 1.90 and cleared 1.92 on her second effort.

Kimberly Williamson of Jamaica was seventh with 1.78m.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Commonwealth Games champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd was second in the women’s Shot Put with a mark of 18.15m. Cuba’s Yaniuvis López took first with an effort of 18.58m.

Ashinia Miller of Jamaica was fourth in the men’s event with a mark of 19.79m, behind winner Curtis Jensen of the USA who produced a personal best of 21.63 for first place.

Also in the field, Jamaican Traves Smikle took second place in the men’s Discus Throw with a mark of 59.98m, as Cyprus’ Apostolos Parellis threw 62.94m in the second round to take the event.

Troy Doris of Guyana was fifth in the men’s Triple Jump with 16.23. Chris Carter of USA was first with 17.02.

The men’s 100m saw Antigua & Barbuda’s Cejhae Greene taking second to Paulo André de Oliveira in 10.16 secs with the Brazilian running 10.14.

Kerron Stewart was the top Jamaican finisher in the women’s event with a fourth-place 11.32 finish.

Simone Facey was sixth in 11.49, Jura Levy ran 11.62 for seventh and Schillonie Calvert-Powell eighth in 11.73.
