Jamaicans Elaine Thompson-Herah, Hansle Parchment and Danielle Williams were winners at Saturday’s (29 Aug) Meeting de Paris Diamond League.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games sprint double champion Thompson-Herah ran 10.72 seconds to win the women’s 100m.
Thompson-Herah, who was running her third Diamond League 100, was followed home by Jamaica’s Olympic bronze medallist Shericka Jackson, who clocked 10.97.
Britain’s world 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith, who won 4x100m bronze in Tokyo, finished third in 11.06s. Jamaican Natasha Morrison was fourth in 11.09.
“I am thankful I crossed the line healthy,” Thompson-Herah said.
“I know everybody is thinking I am targeting the world record, but … I know it is close, but for this season, I am already super-happy. Whatever I come close to this record, I am super-happy for that at the end of the season. The time is good for me.”
Parchment was winning his first Diamond League since leaving Tokyo with gold in the men’s 110m hurdles.
He ran a season’s best of 13.03 to beat American Devon Allen, who won two days prior in Lausanne. Allen’s time was 13.08
Jamaica’s Olympic Games bronze medallist, Ronald Levy, took fourth place in 13.24.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Danielle Williams ran a season’s best 12.50 to take the victory. Olympics bronze medallist Megan Tapper finished third in 12.66.
Janieve Russell, 54.75, finished behind Gianna Woodruff, 54.44 and Anna Ryzhykova, 54.59 in the women’s 400m.
Grenadian Anderson Peters was also a winner in Paris. He threw 85.98m to win the men’s javelin throw ahead of Johannes Vetter Germany, 87.20m.
Sada Williams of Barbados ran 50.30 for second in the women’s 400m, won by Marileidy Paulino of Dominican Republic, 50.12. American Allyson Felix finished third in 50.47 and Jamaican Candice McLeod, seventh, in 51.41.
In the men’s 200m, Fred Kerley edged out fellow American Kenneth Bednarek, with both running the same time – 19.79s.
Jamaicans Nigel Ellis, 10.14 and Julian Forte, 10.21, finished second and fifth in the national 100m dash. American Marvin Bracy won the event with 10.04.
