Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah said her “expectations were not high coming into the trials” following a rough month.

In Friday night’s (25 June) women’s 100m final at the 2021 Jamaica Olympic Trials, Thompson-Herah ran 10.84 seconds to finish behind Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 10.71 and Shericka Jackson, 10.82.

Thompson-Herah, the winner of the 100m/200m double at the Rio 2016 Games, has been affected by an Achilles tendon for almost four years.

“It has been a rough month for me. I had to pull out of two Diamond League meetings earlier in the season because of my Achilles issues,” she said in a post-race interview.

“My expectations were not high coming into the trials. My aim was to take it slowly throughout the rounds and qualify for the Olympics. That is pretty much what I did,” added Thompson-Herah.
