Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, and Michael Norman all stole the sprint show Saturday at the 47th Prefontaine Classic (Pre Classic) at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Thompson-Herah stormed to a 10.79-second win, prevailing over a loaded field that included American Sha’Carri Richardson (10.92) and fellow Jamaicans Shericka Jackson (10.92) and Briana Williams (11.20).
“I’m excited, I crossed the line healthy,” said Thompson-Herah, who admitted she wasn’t focused on her time. “I’m getting into great shape, and I’m getting to where I need to be and just fix a few things like work on my shoulder injury.”
Fraser-Pryce chose to work on speed endurance, with a 200-meter win of 22.41 over American Brittany Brown (22.74) and Bahamian Anthonique Strachan (22.78).
“I’m feeling good,” she said to AP News. “A win is always good. In terms of execution, I’m not sure I executed the way I wanted.”
In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Puerto Rican Olympic gold medalist Camacho-Quinn ran a world lead of 12.45 seconds, defeating the likes of Nigerian Tobi Amusan (12.58), American Tonea Marshall (12.66) and world-record holder Kenni Harrison, who stumbled to 12.78. Jamaica’s Danielle Williams ran 12.71 for fifth.
dos Santos at Pre Classic
Bronze medalist in last year’s historic 400-meter hurdles, Alison dos Santos ran a world lead of 47.23 seconds.
Michael Norman, a part of the USA 4×400-meter relay gold from Tokyo, looks as if he has regained his 2018-2020 form, running his fastest time in three years and a world lead of 43.60 seconds to take the men’s 400 over Kirani James and Mathew Hudson-Smith, who ran 44.02 and 44.35 respectively. His time was also a meet record, lowering Michael Johnson’s two-decade-old 43.92 clocking. His resurrection of peak condition seems to have been aimed in time for Oregon 22.
“Anytime you get to run on home soil it’s special,” Norman said. “I think everyone’s dream is to win a championship at home.”
Hudson Smith also broke a long-standing British record with his efforts.
In the highly touted men’s 100 meters, Trayvon Bromell continued his success this season with a sturdy finish of 9.93 seconds into a headwind, celebrating before the line as he did in Puerto Rico. He led an American sweep with Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman filling out the podium in 9.98 and 10.04, respectively.
Goule at Pre Classic
Natoya Goule held her form and the lead for 600 meters of the 800 until she was overtaken by Keely Hodgkinson and ended the race in fourth at 1:59.39. Hodgkinson won in 1:57.71.
