Five meet records were broken at tonight’s (7 May) Cayman Invitational held here at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Georgetown.

Novelene Williams-Mills, Machel Cedenio, Ronnie Ashe, Anthonique Strachan and Alonso Edwards were the athletes to break meet records.

Williams-Mills was unchallenged in the women’s 400m, to top the women’s 400m field in 50.26 seconds and beat her own record of 50.35 set in 2012. The time was also two hundredth of a second outside the world leading time. Bobby-Gaye Wilkins-Gooden, also of Jamaica, finished second 52.93 and Jenna Martin of Canada, third in 53.91.

Cedenio, who two weeks ago defended his Carifta Games Under-20 400m title, topped the men’s field here in 45.34 to beat the meet record of 45.24 done by Chris Brown in 2012. The time is a National Junior record for Trinidad & Tobago. Torrin Lawrence of USA was second in 45.34 and Dane Hyatt of Jamaica, third in 45.70.

Ashe, in the men’s 110m hurdles, ran 13.20 to beat Hansle Parchment’s 2013 record of 13.25secs. Spencer Adams, also of USA, finished second in 13.43 and Deuce Carter of Jamaica, third in 13.57.

Strachan, Bahamas’ world junior champion, ran out of lane eight and held off the challenge of Porscha Lucas of USA and Sheri-Ann Brooks of Jamaica.

Strachan time of 22.78secs erased Tianna Madison’s 23.30 meet record and got the better of Lucas 23.21 and Brooks 23.33.

Edwards, in the men’s 200m, ran away with the event in 20secs flat. Great Britain’s pair of Daniel Talbot took second in 20.59 and Delano Williams, third in 20.64.

United States’ Jenaba Tarmoh beat a good field in the women’s 100m, her time 11.14secs. Muriel Ahoure of Ivory Coast was second in 11.15 while Great Britain’s Asha Phillip got third in 11.19. Jamaicans Veronican Campbell-Brown 11.27 and Trisha-Ann Hawthorne 11.38 were foruth and fifth respectively.

Kim Collins was the winner in the men’s 100m. He ran 10.20 to beat Harry Adams of US 10.24 and Trinidad & Tobago’s Keston Bledman 10.29. Daniel Bailey of Antigua 10.32, Dexter Lee of Jamaica 10.32, along with Cayman Islands’ pair of Kemar Hyman 10.33 and Tyrel Cuffy 10.75 were also part of the field.

Dawn Harper of USA topped the women’s 100m hurdles field in 12.81, the only sub-13 time. Jamaican Andrea Bliss, who matched her stride for stride up to midway, was second in 13.15 and compatriot Latoya Greaves third in 13.25. Natasha Ruddock was 6th in 13.44 while Virginia Crawford of US ended 7th in 13.86.

Ristananna Tracey won the women’s 400m hurdles in 55.19 over last year’s winner Tiffany Williams of US 55.41. Shevon Stoddart, also of Jamaica, was third in 55.59. Two other Jamaicans Nickiesha Williams 56.35 and Rushell Clayton 57.39 were 5th and 6th respectively.

The men’s 800m race went to Jowayne Hibbert of Jamaica in 1:49.69 ahead of Trinidad & Tobago’s Jamaal James, who fought all the way, 1:49.75 and another Jamaican Ricardo Cunningham 1:50.12
