On Tuesday’s final day when eight records were broken, St Mary High regained their Eastern Athletics Championships title, a part of the Digicel Grand Prix, topping the overall table by 67.5 points at the Usain Bolt Track – UWI Mona.

The champions finished on 717.5 points ahead of Buff Bay High (650 points) and Titchfield High (324.5). Oberlin (313) and Morant Bay (218) rounded off the top five teams.

St Mary High also won the girls’ and boys’ sections with 427 and 290.5 respectively for which they collected $250,000 each. Buff Bay High (363) and Titchfield (200) finished second and third on the girls’ side while Buff Bay High, 287 and St Mary’s College took the minor places among the boys’ teams.

St. Mary High’s victorious coaches won for themselves $50,000 each.

Two of the day’s record breakers, Shanice Burrell of Titchfield High, who ran 14.83 in the Class 1 100m hurdles, and Romaine Beckford of Buff Bay High, who cleared 1.93m in the Class 1 high jump, were named champion girl and champion boy respectively. They will collect $25,000 each for their schools.
