The Caribbean destination of St. Martin was not friendly for the sprinters. The sprints events were hampered by strong head wind.
The night’s best result came in the 400m as US World Indoor relay champion David Verburg won in 45.40 over Bahamian Demetrius Pinder 45.63 and Sweden´s Johan Wissman 46.62.
Alonso Edward clocked 10.40 (-2.1) to win the 100m over a strong field. Second was Kim Collins, in his season opener, 10.45secs, third Mokie Salaam 10.55 followed by Jamaican Michael Frater 10.66 and American Wallace Spearmon 10.75.
In the 200m (-2.5), Salaam won in 20.87 over Spearmon 21.16 and Collins 21.25.
Olympic relay gold medalist Tianna Bartoletta 11.57 (-3.1) just edged out in the women’s 100m Lakeisha Lawson 11.58.
In the 200m, the winner Shalonda Solomon 23.23 over Lawson 23.34 and third Italian 400m record holder Libania Grenot 23.50.
