Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson has won the Moment of the Month Award presented by World Athletics.
Her stunning 21.55-second performance to win the Jamaica trials women’s 200 meters was nominated by World Athletics as one of four Moments of June.
Shericka Jackson was up against some other world-class performances, two of them word-record marks by Sydney McLaughlin and Mondo Duplantis.
Sydney McLaughlin ran a world record of 51.41 to lower her own world 400-metre hurdles record, and Mondo Duplantis cleared a world record of 6.16 meters.
Devon Allen, who ran 12.84 in New York on June 12 to win the men’s 110-meter hurdles, was also in the running.
After the voting ended, however, it was Shericka Jackson – who at last month’s Jamaica trials destroyed a strong 200 meters field to become the fastest woman behind world record holder Florence Griffith Joyner (21.34) and Elaine Thompson-Herah (21.53) on the all-time world list – who came out on top.
“WINNER The votes are in! Thanks to her phenomenal 21.55 at the Jamaican Championships, @sherickajacko is the moment of the month,” World Athletics said in a tweet.
