St.Kitts & Nevis-based, Vincentian Junior Athlete, Shafiqua Maloney, received a special award as one of the “Most Remarkable Teens” in that country, at a ceremony put on by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment there.
She was awarded on Thursday night, November 10, 2016, at the Parliamentary Chambers, Government Headquarters in St.Kitts and Nevis.
Maloney, a former student at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, was the outstanding athlete at the 2016 InterSecondary Schools Championships in St.Kitts, representing the rural-based School, VERCHILD’S SECONDARY.
She won five events, establishing new marks in two, to become the Victrix Ludorum, then went on to represent her country at both the 2016 Carifta Games and World Junior Championships.
“Very thankful I am… Thanks to everyone who made this possible.. And my support group for the past 3 years.. Mike Ollivierre, Jenice Daley, Lonzo Wilkinson and Vincear Wilkinson without you’ll this wouldn’t have been possible. And to my mom Jessica Maloney the driving force behind my success,” the young athlete said on her Facebook page.
Maloney was also her school’s top female performer at the CXC Examinations, copping 11 subjects including 7 distinctions and is expected to take up an Athletics scholarship in January 2017.
