KINGSTON — Jordan Scott produced a lifetime best to secure the top podium place in the men’s triple jump on Day 1 at the 2018 Jamaica National Senior Athletics Championships on Thursday evening.
Scott stretched out to a mark of 16.55 metres to claim his first national title and improved on his previous personal best of 16.44m, set in April 2017.
The 20-year-old has now surpassed the 16m barrier for the sixth time in his career at an outdoor meeting. It was also his second time exceeding the marker this outdoor season.
“Coming out here today was just to jump good and finish healthy. I didn’t really have any goals set in mind, but I am thankful,” said Scott in the Jamaica Observer.
“It’s been a rough season for me… I have been injured for most of the season, and it’s slowly coming back… I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Odaine Lewis, representing Texas Tech University, leaped 16.44m, the second-best effort of his career, for second place, while Clayton Brown finished third in 16.19m.
Former champion Clive Pullen was fourth with 15.96m.
Elsewhere, Orlando Thomas topped the men’s Javelin field with a mark of 69.27m.
Elvis Graham took second with 66.56m, while Zaavan Richards (63.64m) and Aval Denton (61.09m) also exceeded the 60m barrier.
