Tuesday’s (10 July) opening session, here at the IAAF World U20 Championships, was a good one for Team Jamaica.

Michael Stephens ran a personal best 10.30 to win his heat of the men’s 100m and booked his semi-final place.

Michael Bentley, who ran 10.34 for second in heat 3, also made progress.

Women’s 100m at World U20 Championships

Shaquena Foote, who limped off the track with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, after her 2:07.75, qualified as the 13th fastest in the women’s 800m.

Chrissani May, who secured one of four automatic qualifying spots in heat 2 with 2:09.88, is also into Wednesday’s semi-finals.

Wayne Pinnock with an automatic qualifying mark of 7.76m, on his first attempt, and his teammate Shakwon Coke, 7.55m, are hoping for big things in the men’s long jump final.

Stacey-Ann Smith will be the lone Jamaican in action this afternoon. She will take part in the women’s 400m.
