MANCHESTER – Dafne Schippers blasted her way to victory in the women’s 100m on the streets of Manchester at the Great CityGames 2016 on Friday.
Schippers ran a wind-aided 10.94 seconds (+2.7 m/s) to dominate the four women race, with American Tianna Bartoletta taking second place in 11.19 secs, while Germany’s Laura Muller took third with 11.43.
The Dutch star sprinter is the IAAF World Championships gold medallist over the 200m, and silver medal winner over the 100m.
She has a personal best of 10.81 secs for the 100m and has the second quickest time this season of 10.83.
In the men’s race, 2003 IAAF world champion Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis found his best form in the middle of the race to dominate with a time of 10.08 secs.
“I am very happy (to run these times) at this age,” the 40-year-old Collins told BBC Sports.
“My personal gold is to run under 10-seconds and then I’ll retire,” Collins said with a smile.
World bronze medallist Trayvon Bromell of USA was second in 10.14, just of Great Britain’s Chijindu Utah (10.15).
British sprint hurdler Tiffany Porter, assisted by a slight +2.2 m/s wind, took the women’s 100m hurdle in 12.89 secs, beating compatriot Lucy Hatton (13.15) and Isabelle Pedersen of Norway, 13.30.
