The Jamaica College (JC) Sports Development Committee in Association with sponsors, Peak Bottling Group through their Pure Water, takes pleasure in announcing the 22nd staging of the Pure Water/JC Track & Field Development Meet.

The meet, set for Saturday, January 10, 2015 on the school grounds at 189 Old Hope Road, opens the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s (JAAA) local calendar. Action starts at 8:30 a.m.

This year’s meet will once again serve as qualifier for Boys & Girls Athletics Championships which will have its 105th staging this year. Dubbed “the meet with a difference”, Pure Water/JC is anxious to maintain its established image of being a well-organized and well-run meet.

“We are depending on all participants to assist us to this end. To ensure that all competitors are given an opportunity to qualify,” a release sent by Ian Forbes, chairman of the organizing committee said.

The first competitive category will be for schools of all types with participation in Classes 1-3 for boys and 1-4 girls.

The age groups will be:

·        u-19, u-16 and u-14 for boys, i.e., classes i-111
·        u-19, u17, u-15 and u13 for girls, i.e., classes i-iv

The second category will comprise a mix of clubs and institutions with males and females in separate competition.

Events

This year’s events will be 100m, 800m, 3000m(f) and 5000m(m). There will also be the 70m, 80m, 100m and 110m hurdles.

Field events that will be held this year are long jump, discus, high jump, shot put and pole vault.

A maximum of four (4) competitors per class per team per event will be allowed.

All teams are requested to wear their regular competition colours.

Awards and incentives

Pure Water/JC will again be awarding ten (10) individual trophies to the athletes selected by the judges in each class and category. These will be the most outstanding performers.

“This means that a trophy will be awarded to an athlete in each of the eight (8) classes for boys and girls. It is to be noted that the quality of performance by an athlete will not necessarily be judged in terms of points scored,” said the release.

Late entries will be accepted up to 12 noon Monday January 5, 2015. No entries will be accepted on the day of competition.

Venue entry fees:                                $200.00
