TAIPEI (TPE, Dec 18): Two months after finishing second in the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:05:45, Sammy Kitwara claimed the first marathon victory of his career in the Taipei Marathon in a course record of 2:09:59. Mercy Kibarus won the women’s race in 2:36:33.

BRUSSELS (BEL, Dec 18): Fionnuala McCormack claimed back-to-back victories at the IRIS Cross Cup in Brussels (EA CC Permit), winning the 6km in 19:28 ahead of home favourite Louise Carton and Laura Weightman who were both timed at 19:46. European under-23 champion Isaac Kimeli won the 9km in 26:26 by two seconds from Jeroen D’Hoedt who bounced back from a DNF in Chia. Soutane Bouchiki was third in 26:38.

BRUSSELS (BEL): Heptathlon olympic winner Nafissatou Thiam is Belgian Sportswoman of the Year 2016. Cyclist Greg Van Avermaet is the top male person. Long distance runner Louise Carton is the Rising Star of the year and Roger Lespagnard (coach of Thiam) is the coach of the year in Belgium. Jacques Borlee was third in this category. Second in the category Best Team were the Belgian Tornados, the 4×400 m men team. 

LONDON (GBR): Mo Farah was shortlisted among top names for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016 but the win went to tennis star Andy Murray. 

ZAGREB (CRO): Discus olympic winner Sandra Perkovic was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Croatia based on the traditional poll of Sportske Novosti daily sportsnewspaper. In the 65th edition of the event second in women ranking was javelin olympic winner Sara Kolak, top male was rower Damir Martin.

LAKE PLACID (USA): From bob-sleigh World Cup interesting to note second place in women competition for Lolo Jones with Elana Meyers Taylor. In the men four-men competition Olympic winner 2004 in relay Mark Lewis-Francis achieved a 6th place with Lamin Deen, Andrew Matthews and Tremayne Gilling.
