Olympic Games 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Briana Williams and Natoya Goule lead Caribbean entrances into next weekend’s (13 Feb) New Balance Grand Prix in New York, Staten Island.

Miller-Uibo, who ran a Bahamian 200m record to win at last weekend’s American Track League in Arkansas, is down for her first 400m of 2021. She will race against Americans Jessica Beard, former world champion Phyllis Francis and Wadaline Jonathas.

Jamaican Williams is in a large women’s 60m dash field, including Americans Dezerea Bryant, Teahna Daniels, Aleia Hobbs, and Jenna Prandini.

Jamaican Goule will again match strides with American Ajee Wilson in the women’s 800m.

In the men’s 60m dash, Kevin Rattray is the only Jamaican. Barbadian Mario Burke is the only other Caribbean man in the field.
Americans Noah Lyles, Trayvon Bromell and Ronnie Baker are the men to beat.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Deon Lendore, who will be running for the third weekend straight, will carry the Caribbean flag in the men’s 200m. The man to beat, however, is Lyles, who is the Doha 2019 World champion outdoor.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards, who won last weekend in Arkansas at the American Track League, will lead the men’s 300m field. Fred Kerley, who will be running three weekends straight, is his most formidable challenger.

The men’s 400m field is big and has some of the world best athletes, Americans Michael Norman, Rai Benjamine and Vernon Norwood.

American Donavan Brazier, the Doha 2019 world champion, is the man to beat in the 800m.

Sydney McLaughlin will run the rare women’s 500m against fellow Americans Leah Anderson, Brenna Detra, and Olga Kosichenko. Canadian Mellissa Bishop is also in the race.

World 100m hurdles record-holder Kendra Harrison, McLaughlin, who will be going for speed, Queen Clay, and Tiffany Porter are down for the competitive sprint obstacle.

  1. Dem Jamaicans yah ago mash up New York … I think Goule will beat Wilson this time around and Briana Williams will take victory in the women’s 60m dash.

I bets, would love to hear what others think of these showdowns.
