Teenager Miguel Francis has qualified as Antigua and Barbuda lone sprinter to date for this year's Carifta Games to be held in Martinique from April 19-21.
Francis will represent Antigua and Barbuda in the 200 metres.
The 18-year-old booked his spot after posting 21.08 seconds in the 3rd Development meet held at Yasco Sport Complex in January.
The 200-metre National Junior Record Holder and Hampton Games Under-20 Boys spoke to Trackalerts.Com on his preparation for the Carifta Games.
“It’s tough so far but I'm liking the way I'm preparing myself and the way my coach is handling the situation,” said Francis.
Francis is yet to win a Carifta Games medal in the 200 metres and he is hoping to change that in Martinique.
“My aim for 2014 is to win my first Carifta medal in the 200 metres and to become world junior champion at the distance,” said Francis.
Francis said he is receiving good supports from his coach along with his mother as he prepares to achieve the goals he had set for 2014.
According to Francis "coach, Kwame Galloway has been pushing me towards my goals — not only on the track but also my education "And my mother also encourages me to keep doing my best. She's always at my track meets supporting me."
