Grand Canyon University senior Vanessa Levy (Field) and freshman Tope Williams (Track) swept the Western Athletic Conference women's Athlete of the Week Awards for Jan. 19-25, as announced by the conference office today.
This is the second straight week the GCU women have swept the WAC women's Athlete of the Week. It is the second time Williams has been tagged with the honor and is the first recognition for Levy.
Williams shined in her second collegiate meet Saturday in Albuquerque. In a large field of athletes, Williams finished third in the 60-meter dash with her WAC-best time of 7.54 seconds. Williams also posted a conference-best time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.73 seconds, smashing her previous WAC-fastest time of 25.41 seconds.
Levy had an outstanding season debut at the Lobo Collegiate Open this weekend. In her first outing, Levy notched a first-place finish in the weight throw with her toss of 17.43 meters. Levy's distance is a conference-best and is the first throw in the WAC to break 17 meters this season in the weight throw. The senior also picked up an eighth-place in the shot put with her distance of 13.00 meters.
