Shavine Hodges, who has been dominant all year for GCU in the sprints, once again proved why she is the fastest woman in program history, winning conference titles in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash for Grand Canyon University

Hodges recorded a season-best time of 7.35 seconds in the 60-meter dash and then posted a school record mark of 23.88 seconds in the 200-meter dash as her team made history on Friday (28 Feb), becoming the first Antelope team to win a Western Athletic Conference team title outright. Her marks are the 22nd best and 44th best times posted nationally in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, respectively. Hodges was the High Point Performer of the Year in the conference.

Another Jamaican, Moya McKenzie, who had the top qualifying time heading into Friday's final, took home gold in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 54.50 seconds. McKenzie also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash. Jennifer Dowty and Christine Miles placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the run.

The quartet of Hodges, McKenzie, Dowty, and Miles won gold in the women's 4×400-meter relay in a time of 3:44.13.

For the second day in a row, Vanessa Levy broke a school record, this time in the weight throw. Levy recorded a heave of 18.45 meters on her way to taking home silver in the event.

The GCU men's team was in a tight race with Idaho heading into the final few field events and finished second in the championships, scoring 172 points to Idaho's 173. This week's feat was extra special for the 'Lopes, as it was their first year competing at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

"What an incredible day for the GCU track and field programs," said head coach Tom Flood. "For our women to win in just our fourth year of existence and our first year at Division I is truly remarkable."

"It was a heartbreaking way to lose the men's title (one point), but our men battled all the way through the final events and I couldn't be more proud of them," added Flood.
