Shannon Kalawan won the women's 400m and finished third in the 200m at the Liberty Flames Invitational

Andrenette Knight, Shannon Kalawan and Shivnarine Smalling were among several Jamaican winners at indoor meets across the United States on the weekend (31-Jan to 1-Feb).

Former Vere Technical student Andrenette Knight, representing the University of Virginia, won the women’s 400m in 55.56s at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland.

Chloe Alfieri of Navy was second in 55.81 and Jessica Wright of Howard University, third in 57.19s.

At the Liberty Flames Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia, former Newell and KC athlete Shivnarine Smalling, representing Saint Augustine’s University, won the 60m 6.85s ahead of John Lundy of DC International, 6.87s.

Former Edwin Allen standout Shannon Kalawan won the women’s 400m and finished third in the 200m.
Kalawan, representing Saint Augustine’s University, ran 55.55 to win the women’s 400m ahead of Ohio University’s Ashleigh Kitrell, 57.12. Her 200m time of 24.92 was only good enough for third behind Alexis Rolan, 22.44 and Abby Pantlitz, 24.80 in the 200m.

Shellece Clark, who attended UTech last season, finished seventh in the 200m with 25.58s, running for Saint Augustine’s University.

Kalawan, on anchor, teamed up with Jaria Hoyte, Danielle Scantlebury and Dabia Smith to take St. Augustine’s to a comfortable 4x400m victory in 3:46.18.

At the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational in Texas, Jamaican Nicholas Alexander, 6.74 finished second behind Jo’Vaughn, 7.73 in the men’s 60m.

At the Pittsburgh State Invitational in Pittsburgh, KS, Jamaican Kissi-Ann Brown, representing Lincoln University, won the women’s 400m in 55.27 ahead of Linesha Thompson 56.60.

Demisha Roswell, also Jamaican, ran 8.19 to take victory in the women’s 60m hurdles at Team Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

  1. Very disappointed in Shellece Clark…I honestly think this girl would be challenging for a spot on Jamaica’s senior team by now. The potential showed in high school never come through. At one point I heard about a family member who got involved in her management because they think she was the next Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
    A lot of times these family members ONLY show up when things a gwaan…and want to rule the high school coaches and that is why we lose so many of our top athletes
