GLASGOW – Jamaica took all the medals in the men’s 200m final on Thursday’s 8th day at the XX Commonwealth Games here at Hampden Park.

Rasheed Dwyer, the Jamaica Trials winner, topped the 200m field by running 20.14 seconds to beat teammates Warren Weir (20.26) and Jason Livermore (20.32).

Jamaica’s other gold medal on the day came from Kaliese Spencer's winning run in the women's 400m hurdles – her time 54.10secs. Scottish favourite Eilidh Child won silver in 55.02, while Jamaican Janieve Russell pocketed bronze in 55.64.

South Africa’s Cornel Fredericks won the 400mH in 48.50, beating Trinidad & Tobago’s Jehue Gordon (48.75 SB) and Jeffery Gibson of the Bahamas (48.78). Jamaica’s Annsert Whyte, who hit the 8th hurdle, did not finish.

In wet conditions, Vikas Gowda of India took the men’s discus title with 63.34m. Apostolos Parellis of Cyprus (63.32) and Jamaica’s Jason Morgan (62.34) were the other medal winners. Defending champion Ben Harradine was 4th with 61.91m.

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare (22.25) completed the sprint double by topping the women's 200m final. England took 2nd, 3rd and 4th, all in PBs; Jodie Williams (22.50), Bianca Williams (22.58), Anyika Onuora (22.64). Jamaicans Anneisha McLaughlin finished fifth in a time of 22.68; Schillonie Calvert clocked 22.94 for sixth and Samantha Henry-Robinson was eighth in a time of 23.24  seconds.

In the men’s 800m final, David Rudisha led through the bell in 52.7, but it wasn’t enough to shake the field, and Botswana’s Nijel Amos, who sprinted clear to win in 1:45.18. Rudisha’s 1:45.48 was enough for second place.

Amos’ training partner Andre Olivier took bronze for South Africa in 1:46.03.

Sally Pearson looked impressive in winning her 100m hurdles heat in 12.69 (-0.3). Her main challenger, Tiffany Porter won heat 1 in 12.84 (0.7). 2009 World champion Dani Samuels topped discus qualification 64.53m.
