Jamaica’s five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is preparing for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, and she aims to start the season off strong at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on April 29.
During her first 100m race of 2022 at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Fraser-Pryce clocked in at 10.67, setting a new record for the fastest women’s 100m season opener. She is eager to demonstrate her skills again in Botswana while enjoying the competition.
The Botswana Continental Tour Gold meet, which is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, will feature other prominent sprinters, including Kirani James and Ferdinand Omanyala. James, from Grenada, won a silver medal in the 400m at last year’s event, while Omanyala, from Kenya, claimed both the Commonwealth Games and African 100m titles in 2022.
This year’s World Athletics Continental Tour includes 14 Gold level events across five of the six continental areas. The tour began in Melbourne, Australia, on February 23. Other noteworthy athletes who have confirmed their participation in the Tour include Mondo Duplantis for the Ostrava Golden Spike on June 27th, and Femke Bol and Lieke Klaver for the FBK Games on June 4th.
Fraser-Pryce is thrilled to return to Africa and commence her season with the Botswana Continental Tour Gold meet, where she will be able to display her speed and enjoy the competition.
