British sprinters Zharnel Hughes and Dina Asher-Smith stole the show with 100m victories at the European Championships on Tuesday in Berlin.

Usain Bolt, the undisputed king of track and field, was quick to sent a congratulatory message to Hughes.

“Congrats to my @racerstrack teammate @zharnel_hughes on winning the 100m @EuroAthletics,” Bolt tweeted.

Hughes, won the men’s 100m in 9.95secs, a personal best, to beat his teammate Reece Prescod, 9.96, a new national U23 record.

“Consistency plus Commitment. 9.95s! New Euro Championship Record! Another sub-10 clocking! Thanks for having me Berlin!,” Hughes said in a tweet.

Former Jamaican athlete Jak Ali Harvey, now representing Turkey, ran 10.01secs for bronze.

Asher-Smith ran a personal best and world-leading 10.85 for gold in the women’s 100m. Germany’s Gina Luckenkemper took silver in a European U23 record of 10.98.

World 100m champion Dafne Schippers of Netherland finished third in 10.99.

Frenchman Morhad Amdouni ran 28 minutes, 11.22 seconds to take victory in the men’s 10,000m final.

In the field, Michal Haratyk of Poland, 21.72m, won the men’s shot put while his teammate Wojciech Nowicki took the men’s hammer with 80.12m
