Each top educator and coach from the victorious schools will receive a distinctive award of $250,000, while schools setting the most records become eligible for an exclusive digital award of $500,000. The funds will bolster the schools’ digital curriculum and educational support.
The inauguration of the 113th iteration of the event took place at the National Stadium, where Don Wehby, CEO of GraceKennedy, revealed a $175 million sponsorship ($82 million in cash and $93 million in execution) through Grace Foods, Grace Money Services, and the First Global brand for the event.
The five-day contest will host 69 boys’ schools and 68 girls’ teams, encompassing 88 events. The annual event will welcome a full-scale audience for the first time since 2019. In the previous year, only 20,000 spectators attended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the 2021 event featured no audience, and the 2020 championships were canceled.
Keith Wellington, ISSA president, stressed their commitment to collaborating with partners to preserve and elevate Jamaica’s track and field as a world-class and premier product. Defending champions include Kingston College for boys and Edwin Allen High for girls.
