BOSTON, Mass. (March 13, 2023) — Adaejah Hodge’s performance in the 200-meter race on Sunday was a historic feat that shook the world of high school track and field. Even her coach, Gerald Phiri, could hardly contain his astonishment as he witnessed Hodge’s record-breaking run at the New Balance Nationals Indoor.

At just 16 years old, and with her 17th birthday coming up in 10 days, Hodge shattered the high school national record in the 200m with a time of 22.33 seconds, surpassing Mia Brahe-Pedersen’s record of 22.89 seconds set last February. Hodge also achieved new world U18 and U20 standards, leaving Olympic gold medalist Bianca Knight’s 2008 World U20 record behind.

Hodge’s dominance in the 200m is nothing short of impressive. Her performance during the prelims was exceptional, with a time of 22.77 seconds, breaking Brahe-Pedersen’s record.

Phiri, still in shock, marveled at Hodge’s performance and the potential it represents, stating, “I don’t know when we’re going to see athletes like this ever again. These types of athletes don’t come around often.”

Hodge is already looking forward to the future with confidence that belies her age. “This is just the beginning,” she said after the race.

With Hodge’s incredible run and the records she has shattered, the future of high school track and field looks brighter than ever before.
