KINGSON, Jamaica – Two-time Olympic Games 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce shared “don’t like disappointing fans” as the reason for her withdrawal from Saturday’s (14 June) Adidas Grand Prix in New York
On Monday, the organizers confirmed Fraser-Pryce, who working to regain top fitness after a minor injury earlier this season, has withdrawn from the meet, which is the 6th stop in the IAAF Diamond League Series.
“Yes, I can confirm I will not be competing in The Adidas Meet. I don't like disappointing fans but like you all agree, I cannot run them all when I'm not at my best,” she said via her social media page.
“My apologies to the meet organizers. Welcome newest fans! Have a great day everyone:),” the message ended.
Fraser-Pryce, who finished 8th in the last two Diamond League meets, Eugene 200m in 23.06 and 11.19 in Rome over 100m, is recovering from a left foot injury.
The Adidas Grand Prix organizers sent to Fraser-Pryce “best of luck for the rest of the season, and we hope to see you next year.”
Earlier, Fraser-Pryce pulled out the Shanghai meeting in May and Penn Relays in April. She ran only the 4x200m at the World Relays in Bahamas.
