Elaine Thompson-Herah opened her season on a winning note at the Queens/Grace Jackson Invitational at Kingston’s National Stadium East facility on Saturday (29 Jan).

The Olympic Games 100/200m double-double winner raced to 7.19 seconds against an unfavourable 1.9m/s wind.
Thompson-Herah was challenged early by Shashalee Forbes of Sprintec but pulled away midway to win easy. Remona Burchell, also of Sprintec, closed fast, but she had to settle for second in 7.29.
Forbes’ time was 7.36.
Elaine Thompson-Herah was glad to be back on track, adding, “new season, kicking it off with the 60m, it feels great.”
“I am happy to be here,” she added.
In the men’s 200m, Sage Primus won in 21.65 ahead of his GC Foster College’s teammate Andre Dacres, 21.69.
GC Foster College’s pair of Annecia Richards, 24.83 and Odesha Nanton, 25.31, topped the women’s 200m.
Lushane Wilson of GC Foster College took the men’s triple jump with 15.15m ahead of Tevin Dunn, 15.14m.
