BRUSSELS, Belgium — World 200m champion Dafne Schippers is considering competing in the long jump next year.
The Dutch heptathlete turned sprinter believes that she can jump over 7 metres.
She notes, however, that she will focus solely on the sprints at the Rio Olympics and will most likely compete in only one individual event at the 2016 European Championships held in her home country.
Meanwhile, Memorial Van Damme Meeting Director Wilfried Meert has said that the Belgian political leaders are starting to feel the pressure from the large amount of support for the survival of athletics at the King Baudouin Stadium.
He said that he is “more and more optimistic that in the end the actual stadium will remain and be renovated.”
He added that the politicians’ suggestion that the meet be moved to a stadium of a capacity of 20,000 would be bad for the event as they would lose their position as a final on the Diamond League circuit.
