Jamaicans Briana Williams, Kai Chang and Oblique Seville were gold medal winners on Saturday’s opening day of the 48th Carifta Games at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman.
Williams, the World U20 sprint double champion, made light work of the senior girls’ 100m final to win in 11.25 seconds. Akila Lewis (TTO) 11.62 and Kemba Nelson (JAM) 11.68 were second and third respectively.
In the U20 boys’ final, Jamaica finished 1-2 with Seville 10.24 and Ryiem Robertson 10.37.
Wendell Miller (BAH) topped the U17 boys’ 400m final in 48.45 ahead of Jamaicans That Hamm 48.54 and Tariq Dacres 48.70.
Anthaya Charlton (BAH) took the U17 girls’ 100m final in 11.51 ahead of Shaniqua Bascombe (TTO) 11.72 and Ulanda Lewis (VIN) 11.91.
Meanwhile, Chang, the World U20 discus champion, won this event with 59.36m.
Shaquena Foote (JAM) 52.63 and her teammate Annakay Allen 53.53 finished 1-2 in the U20 girls’ 400m final.
Caitlyn Bobb (BER) took the U17 girls’ 400m title in 53.69 ahead of Akrisa Eristee (IVB) 54.10 and Rickiann Russell (JAM) 54.18.
Tyrese Reid (JAM) ran a well-timed race to take the U20 boys’ 1500m final in 3:55.38 ahead of his teammate Fabian Campbell 3:56.23.
Claudrice McCoy (GUY) won the U20 girls’ 1500m final in 4:39.46 ahead of Jamaicans Kelly-Ann Beckford (JAM) 4:40.49 and Aneisha Lawrence 4:41.19.
Mitchell Curtis (BAH) was the U17 boys’ 1500m final winner in 4:09.34, beating J’Voughn Blake (JAM) 4:10.52.
Samantha Pryce (JAM) came out on top of the U17 girls’ 1500m final in 4:47.34 while her teammate Jodyann Mitchell was second in 4:49.49.
Jamaicans Marie Forbes 47.63m and Kimone Reid 44.60m took gold and silver in the U20 girls’ discus throw.
Annishka McDonald (JAM) topped the U17 girls’ high jump with a clearance of 1.74m. Jamaicans Janique Burger and Daniella Anglin, both cleared 1.77m were the only entrance in the U20 girls’ high jump.
Jamaican Christopher Young took the U17 boys’ shot put with 16.00m over his teammate Kobe Lawrence 15.86
