The 44th Carifta Games opened in the Silver Jubilee Stadium on Friday, but will finish on Monday in the Kim Collins National Athletic Stadium.
The Hon. Shawn K Richards, Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, announced on Friday during the opening ceremony of the 44th CARIFTA Games that the Stadium on Sunday (5 April) will be named in Collins’ honour.
Collins, in 2003 became his country’s first and only World Champion. Running out of lane one, he won the 100m in Paris.
He also won the bronze medals in the 100m in Helsinki (2005) and Daegu (2011) and over 200m Edmonton (2001). Collins also helped his country to a historical 4x100m bronze in Daegu.
The 38-year-old represented St. Kitts and Nevis at the Olympic Games on four occasions, from 1996 to 2008, and eight consecutive World Championships between 1997 and up to 2011
Collins will be recognized and honoured during a special ceremony to be held on Sunday April 5th at 3pm.
