GC Foster College-based athletes dominated the 42nd staging of the Milo Western Relays held on their home track on Saturday (8 Feb).

The athletes, competing for Sprintec and GC Foster College, won almost everything, most impressively the men’s long jump with Shawn D Thompson and 4x100m titles.

Thompson just missed the Toyko 2020 qualifying mark of 8.22m.

Thompson, representing GC Foster College, leapt a big personal best 8.20m to dismantle MVP’s Tajay Gayle old record of 8.00m to win the men’s long jump. Thompson’s personal best was 8.13m done in 2019.

In the men’s 4x100m, Sprintec Lions 38.56 with Andrew Fisher, Everton Clarke, Romario Williams and Demish Gaye, equalled the record set back in 2011. Sprintec finished second in 38.75 and MVP, with Asafa Powell on leadoff, third in 38.80.

Sprintec also won the women’s 4x100m final, crossing the line in 44.05 to beat GC Foster 44.47 and MVP, 44.49.

GC Foster won the men’s sprint medley in 3:24.58 ahead of Maximum Aerobic 3:25.72. GC Foster College also won the men’s 4x200m in 1:26.11 ahead of UWI 1:27.63.

Sprintec won both mile relays.

Brendon Rodney, Rasheed Dwyer, Romario Williams and Demish Gaye took top honours in the men’s event with a reasonably good 3:06.49 ahead of UTech, 3:07.32.

Sprintec women’s quartet of Dawnalee Loney, Ana Leroy, Rhonda Whyte and Tovea Jenkins won in 3:35.58 ahead of GC Foster College 3:42.60 and UTech 3:46.30

Earlier, MVP’s Asafa Powell won the men’s 60m dash in 6.73, the same time given to Andrew Fisher of Sprintec Lions.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of MVP took the women’s 60m in 7.32 ahead of Sprintec’s Natasha Morrison, 7.41.

Janieve Russell of MVP was the women’s 400m winner in 53.48. UWI’s Candice McLeod finished second in 55.52.

Atena Rayson of Vere took the women’s 100m open in 11.98 ahead of UTech’s Amoi Brown, 12.08. Samuel Smith won the men’s event in 10.50 ahead of Javon Rollins of GC Foster College 10.53.

The men’s 400m event saw Bovel McPherson of Holmwood taking the top spot in 47.35.

Sadiki Marsh ran 1:55.15 to win the men’s 800m. Kemario Eldemire of GC Foster College won the men’s 400m hurdles in 51.34.
