Justin Gatlin won the 100m in wind-less conditions at the Gala Dei Castelli in 9.97 in Bellinzona, Switzerland. He beat fellow American Mike Rodgers, 10.00s while Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake won the B race in 10.11s.
Bahamian Tynia Gaither, 11.16, finished second in the women’s 100m dash. The event went to Mujinga Kambundji in 11.12. Reigning world champion Tori Bowie could only manage fifth in 11.29.
Olympic fourth-placer Cindy Ofili secured the qualifying time for Doha with victory in the 100m hurdles in 12.85 ahead of Costa Rica’s Andrea Vargas (12.86) and Queen Claye (12.86).
Jamaican Andrew Riley won the 110m hurdles in 13.60s.
Lea Sprunger followed suit with victory in the 400m hurdles in 55.24 over Canada’s Sage Watson, 55.62.
Elsewhere, former world and Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt won the 400m in 45.82 (his first 400 m since 2017 World Championships).
