Javon Francis anchored Jamaica men’s 4x400m team to a silver medal in the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Jamaica closed out the 17 day spectacle with six gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Francis, who collected the baton in fourth position from Fitzroy Dunkley, took Jamaica across the line in a season best, 2:58.16.
Francis recorded the 5th fastest split overall, 43.78 to chase Bahamian, Chris Brown (44.20) and Gaonne Leaname Maotoanong from Botswana (45.28).
“I have only good feelings. I said to myself ‘Usain BOLT did it’ so I need to work for a medal,” said Francis after the race.
Peter Matthews led off Jamaica with 45.5 to Nathon Allen, who brought his team back in the race with 44.0
Dunkley, in his first major outdoor championships, said the silver “means everything”
“These guys are my brothers and I know they have been working hard. It’s all about getting in there; we knew we had the talent to do it,” he said.
Bahamas with Alonzo Russell, 45.3, Michael Mathieu, 45.1 and Steven Gardiner, 43.79, and Brown took bronze in a season best 2:58.49.
USA won in 2:57.30.
