Carter, Smith, Richards win gold at CAC Games

Jamaica won three gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games on Monday, July 30. Results here

Sprinters Nesta Carter and Jonielle Smith along with shot putter Odayne Richards were the winners.

Carter, who ran 9.92 in the semi-finals on Sunday, returned to take the final in 10.07secs.

St. Kitts and Nevis’ pair of Jason Rogers, 10.15 and Cejhae Greene, 10.16 were the other medal winners.

In the women’s 100m final, Smith took the top spot in 11.04secs, beating Trinidad and Tobago’s Khalifa St. Fort, 11.15.

Richards won the men’s shot put with a record throw of 21.02m. His teammate Ashinia Miller took second place with 20.19m.

Alena Brooks of Trinidad and Tobago ran 2:02.26 and Sonia Gaskin of Barbados 2:03.143 for second and third respectively in the women’s 800m, won by Cuban Rose Almanza, 2:01.63.

Jamaica’s Simoya Campbell finished 4th in 2:03.16

Meanwhile, Tiffany James, 53.00 and Terri-Ann Hill, 53.17 won their semi-final heats of the women’s 400m.

Alonzo Russell of Bahamas won his men’s 400m semi-final in 46.49.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Ruebin Walters, 13.64secs, won his semi-final heat of the men’s 110m hurdles.
