Campbell falls short in 5000m #Rio2016

Jamaica’s Kemoy Campbell finished a commendable 10th place in the first heat of the men’s 5000m preliminaries in a time of 13:30.32 on the morning session of Day VI of Athletics competition here in Rio.

Campbell was among the early leaders in the race, as he kept with the pace in the opening laps. However, the 25 year old fell back as the front-runners made their bid for the top spots.

Though he finished outside of the top five positions required to advance to the finals, the multiple Carifta Games 1500m/3000m/5000m champion crossed the line in a season’s best time.

Hagos Gebrhiwet of Ethiopia was first across the line (13:24.65) ahead of Albert Rop of Bahrain (13:24.95) and defending Olympic champion, Great Britain’s Mohammed Farah (13:25.25).
