SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — Lavanya Williams led a strong Jamaican showing with victory in the women’s 100 metres at the 6th Felix Sanchez Classic 2026, held at Felix Sanchez Stadium on Aug. 22.
Williams advanced from the heats in 11.15 seconds (+1.3 m/s) before improving to new personal best of 10.90 (+0.7 m/s) in the final. Ashanti Moore, who had clocked 11.07 (+1.4 m/s) in the heats, followed Williams home in 10.97 to give Jamaica a 1-2 finish. The Dominican Republic’s Liranyi Alonso, who ran 11.11 (+1.4 m/s) in the heats, took third in 11.05.
Jamaica also placed two athletes in the men’s 100m final. Kadrian Goldson advanced with 10.00 seconds (+1.4 m/s) before improving to 9.90 for second. Colombia’s Ronal Longa won in a wind-assisted 9.84 (+2.4 m/s), while Jamaica’s Travis Williams finished fifth in 10.00.
In the men’s 200m, Christopher Taylor took second for Jamaica in 20.33 seconds (+2.0 m/s), narrowly behind American Kyree King, who won in 20.28. The Dominican Republic’s Yancarlos Martinez was third in 20.38.
Jamaica added another runner-up finish in the women’s 400m hurdles through Commonwealth Games champion Sanique Walker, who clocked 54.45 seconds for second behind Zimbabwe’s Ashley Tinashe-Miller, the winner in 54.19.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Amoi Brown finished second in 12.73 seconds (+1.4 m/s). American Amber Hughes won in 12.52, while Nigeria’s Adaobi Tabugbo was third in 13.05.
Jamaica also had two athletes in the men’s 400m hurdles. Malik James King finished sixth in 50.60, while Assinie Wilson did not finish. Dominica’s Dennick Luke was fifth in 49.59.
In the women’s shot put, Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron took third with a best throw of 17.50m. The Dominican Republic’s Rosa Angelica Ramirez won with 18.39m, ahead of Ecuador’s Belsy Jenniffer Quinonez at 17.83m.
Elsewhere among athletes from the English-speaking Caribbean, Shafiqua Maloney of St. Vincent and the Grenadines won the women’s 400m in 51.54 seconds, ahead of Puerto Rico’s Andrea Rivera in 52.02 and the Dominican Republic’s Estrella De Aza in 52.29.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascome finished second in the women’s 200m in 22.26 seconds (+1.2 m/s), behind American Jasmine Montgomery’s 22.20. Alonso was third in 22.53.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Tyra Gittens-Spotsville also earned a runner-up finish in the women’s long jump with 6.43m (-1.7 m/s). Panama’s Nathalee Aranda won with 6.46m, while Nigeria’s Ruth Usoro was third with 6.42m.
The Dominican Republic also collected victories through Yeral Nunez in the men’s 400m hurdles in 48.26, Gabriel Moronta in the men’s 400m in 44.70, and Rosa Angelica Ramirez in the women’s shot put with 18.39m.
