Shanoya Douglas, Gary Card Headline Jamaica’s World U20 Team for World Athletics U20 Championships

Jamaica has confirmed its roster for the World Athletics U20 Championships, set for Eugene, Oregon, from August 5-9, with sprinters Shanoya Douglas and Gary Card set to lead the team. The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) released the full squad this week, naming a deep group of young athletes across sprints, distance events, hurdles, and the field.

Card arrives in Eugene as the top-ranked junior sprinter in the world this season. He clocked 9.93 seconds this year, a mark that stands as both a national U20 record and the fastest time by any junior globally. He will race the 100m and 200m individually and is also expected to contribute to Jamaica’s relay efforts. Dontae Watson and Nathaniel Martin join him in the 100m field, while Martin and reserve Sanjay Seymore round out the men’s 200m entries.

Douglas, meanwhile, comes into the championships with a case for being the meet’s top overall performer. She already holds a World U20 bronze medal in the 200m and has been unbeaten across three major meets this year — the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships, the CARIFTA Games, and Jamaica’s National Junior Championships — winning both the 100m and 200m at each. Her personal-best times of 10.98 in the 100m and 22.11 in the 200m rank first in the world among junior athletes, with the 200m mark also standing as a Jamaican U20 record.

Douglas will race the 100m alongside Theianna-Lee Terrelonge and reserve Natreece East, then move to the 200m with East and Sashana Johnson.

Beyond the sprints, Jamaica’s team spans a wide range of events. Daniellia Dixon and Shameika McLean will represent the country in the women’s 400m, while Kevonagay Fowler takes on the 800m. On the men’s side, Jabari Matheson, Jason Pitter, and Joel Morgan are entered across the 400m and 800m distances.

The hurdles events also carry strong representation. Akeelah Bell and Tiana Marshall will run the women’s sprint hurdles, with Taj-O’Neil Gordon and Marquies Page taking the men’s equivalent. In the 400m hurdles, Marria Crossfield and Shevaughn Thomas will compete for the women, while Robert Miller and Jahvanie Tyrell carry the men’s entries.

Jamaica’s field event contingent includes Able Mills in the women’s discus. On the men’s side, David Brown will contest the high jump, Michael-Andre Edwards is entered in both the long jump and triple jump, and Rekelme Hunter joins the triple jump field. Nkosana Johnson and Kamari Kennedy will throw the shot put, with Kennedy doubling into the discus alongside Joseph Salmon.

Relay pools have also been finalized. The women’s sprint relay group includes Douglas, Terrelonge, East, Renecia Edwards, Marshall, and Samoya Bown. On the men’s side, Card headlines a pool that includes Martin, Seymore, Watson, Nyrone Wade, and Justin Stewart.

For the 4x400m relays, Jamaica has selected Dixon, McLean, Shanika Lindsay, Kristen Herbert, and Johnson for the women’s team, while Matheson, Pitter, Jabulani McLeod, Jordan Rehedul, Nishawn Walker, and Joshua Wint make up the men’s pool. Dixon and McLean also appear in the mixed 4x400m relay group, joined by Campbell, McLeod, and Walker.

According to the JAAA, reserve athletes will only travel with the team if a withdrawal occurs before departure. Final relay lineups will be determined by the technical leader and coaching staff closer to competition.
