The 65th edition of the Golden Spike Ostrava is days away, and the start lists are giving track and field fans plenty of reasons to pay attention. From a women’s 800 meters that has world record conversations swirling around it, to a loaded sprint program headlined by Noah Lyles and Gout Gout in the 150 meters, the June 9 meet in Ostrava is building into one of the strongest Diamond League-level events of the 2026 outdoor season.
Tickets are nearly gone. Fewer than 800 remain for this 65th anniversary edition, and they are available only at www.zlatatretra.cz/vstupenky. No tickets will be sold at the stadium or online on race day.
Audrey Werro Brings World Record Buzz to Ostrava
The women’s 800 meters is the race drawing the most attention heading into the meet. Swiss middle-distance runner Audrey Werro posted a stunning 1:53.98 in Stockholm, the third-fastest time ever recorded over the distance. That performance immediately sparked talk of the world record — a mark set 43 years ago by Czech legend Jarmila Kratochvílová, who will attend the Golden Spike as a guest of honor.
Werro will share the start line with Femke Bol-Broeders, one of the best 400 and 800 meter runners in the world. While organizers have been careful not to overpromise, the combination of Werro’s recent form and Bol-Broeders’ competitive presence makes this one of the most exciting women’s 800m matchups of the season.
Women’s 100m: Maňasová Chases Sub-11 Against Deep Field
Czech sprinter Karolína Maňasová broke a national 100 meters record that had stood since 1981, clocking 11.01 last week. The Golden Spike gives her a chance to push that mark even further — but the field standing in her way is among the best assembled this season.
Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, a close friend of Maňasová, has already opened her season at 10.99. Jamaica’s Brianna Lyston leads all entrants with a personal best of 10.91 and has run 10.94 this year. New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs matches that 10.94 season best, while Germany’s European champion Gina Lückenkemper has clocked 10.93. European indoor champion Ajla Del Ponte is working her way back from injury and has recorded 11.11 so far this season. Hungary’s Boglárka Takács sits at 11.06, and Australia’s Torrie Lewis rounds out the field at 11.08.
Men’s Sprints: Eseme Joins 100m Field After Rome Breakthrough
The men’s 100 meters gained a high-profile addition following the Rome Diamond League. Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme finished second in Rome and set a Cameroonian national record of 9.94 in the process. He now joins an already competitive men’s sprint lineup in Ostrava.
In the 150 meters, South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile — who improved his 200 meter personal best to 19.77 and finished second in Stockholm — lines up alongside Noah Lyles and Gout Gout. That race alone has made the Golden Spike one of the most talked-about meets on the 2026 calendar.
400m Fields Stack Up With Global Talent
The men’s 400 meters puts local Czech athlete Milan Ščibráni in a tough spot. He faces American Khaleb McRae, the indoor world record holder with a 43.91 personal best, and South Africa’s Lythe Pillay, who ran the fastest relay split leg in 4×400 meters history — a 42.92 in Botswana. Belgium’s defending Golden Spike champion Daniel Segers, who ran 44.63, is also entered.
On the women’s side, indoor world champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel will run the flat 400 meters against Slovakia’s Emma Zapletalová, the current world leader in the 400 meters hurdles. Organizers expect this to be Manuel’s only flat 400m race of the outdoor season.
The 400 meters hurdles features the return of American Chris Robinson, who was one of the best performers at last year’s Golden Spike. Brazil’s Matheus Lima, who ran 47.37 in Stockholm, is expected to be his primary challenger.
Hurdles: Szymański Takes On Joseph and Menedez in 110m
Indoor world champion Jakub Szymański has a serious test in the 110 meters hurdles. Swiss record holder Jason Joseph and Cuba’s Kendry Menedez both bring 13.07 personal bests into the race, setting up what should be a highly competitive three-way battle.
Middle Distance: Record Attempts in the 1000m and Mile
The men’s 1000 meters is built around a meeting record attempt by Mohammed Attaoui. After Josh Hoey withdrew with an injury, organizers brought in Portugal’s 1500 meters world champion Isaac Nader and Ireland’s Mark English, who won the Diamond League in China and finished second in Rome, to strengthen the field.
The men’s mile is also targeting the meeting record of 3:49.57. Norway’s Narve Gilje Nordås, a World Championships medallist, leads the entry list alongside Australia’s Adam Spencer and American Vincent Ciattei. All three hold personal bests under 3:50.
Czech steeplechaser Damián Vích will attempt to break the Czech national record in his event. Morocco’s Salah Ben Yazide, who owns a personal best of 8:06.44, heads the international field.
Javelin Loaded With World Champions and Olympic Medalists
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage arrives as the current world leader after throwing 92.62 meters in Rome — a mark that places him among the top ten javelin throwers in history. He will compete against two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and Olympic champion Thomas Röhler of Germany. Czech throwers Martin Konečný and Jan Výška are also in the field. Jakub Vadlejch has opted out of Ostrava to prepare for the Doha Diamond League instead.
The women’s javelin brings together reigning world champion Juliesy Angulo of Ecuador, Serbia’s Adriana Vilagoš, and Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk. Czech fans will also follow Olympic medallist Nikola Ogrodníková, who competes alongside Petra Sičaková and the improving Nikol Tabačková.
Emil Zátopek Memorial 10,000m on Monday
The Emil Zátopek Memorial 10,000 meters will be held on Monday as part of the Czech and Slovak Championships. Kenya’s Kevin Soget, with a personal best of 27:53.32, leads the men’s field. Germany’s Konstanze Klosterhalfen tops the women’s entries at 31:01.71.
