Rasheed Broadbell will make his return to international competition on Tuesday (14 Jul), leading Jamaica’s challenge at the Gyulai István Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.
The Olympic bronze medalist is entered in a loaded men’s 110-meter hurdles field that also includes world champion Cordell Tinch, world record holder Ja’Kobe Tharp, fellow Jamaican Orlando Bennett, Americans Trey Cunningham and Jamal Britt, and Cuba’s Kendry Menéndez.
Broadbell’s return is one of the major storylines for Jamaica as the European outdoor season continues, with the country’s leading hurdlers facing another high-quality test ahead of the season’s major championships.
Jamaica will also be represented in the men’s shot put, where Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell is set to compete against New Zealand’s Tom Walsh and Americans Josh Awotunde and Payton Otterdahl. Campbell continues to establish himself among the world’s top throwers after another consistent season on the international circuit.
Elsewhere on the program, South Africa’s Akani Simbine leads a men’s 100m field featuring seven athletes with personal bests under 10 seconds.
Olympic silver medalist Djamel Sedjati headlines the men’s 800m, while Phanuel Koech tops the entries in the 1,500m alongside Narve Nordås, Festus Lagat, Neil Gourley and Anass Essayi.
In the field events, Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou returns in the long jump after soaring 8.61m in Monaco, while world record holder Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is back in the pole vault after setting a world record at last year’s Budapest meeting.
The men’s hammer throw also features an outstanding lineup led by Olympic champion Ethan Katzberg, five-time world champion Paweł Fajdek, Olympic bronze medalist Mykhaylo Kokhan and Hungary’s Bence Halász.
