Kadrian Goldson Runs 9.89 to Headline Ed Murphey Classic Sprint Action in Memphis

Kadrian Goldson broke through with a lifetime best in Memphis on Friday, running 9.89 (1.9) to take the 100m at the Ed Murphey Classic, a WACT Silver meeting. The Jamaican sprinter beat a strong field that included Ronnie Baker, who finished second in 9.93, and Courtney Lindsey, who matched that time for third. Brandon Hicklin rounded out the top four in 9.98.

Wind played a role in many of the sprint events throughout the day, with several marks recorded outside the legal limit.

In the field events, Russell Robinson set a personal best of 17.54m (1.6) to win the triple jump, holding off Salif Mane, who reached 16.90m wind-aided. Jordan Geist claimed the shot put title with a throw of 22.44m, ahead of Adrian Piperi at 21.77m and Payton Otterdahl at 21.76m.

Nigeria picked up wins on both sides of the 400m. Ella Onojuvwevwo won the women’s race in 50.38, finishing ahead of Sanaria Butler (50.69) and Alexis Holmes (50.94). Samuel Ogazi took the men’s 400m in 44.57. Antonio Watson placed second in 44.70, his fastest time since capturing the World title in 2023. Kirani James finished third in 45.04.

Jamal Britt won the 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 12.91 (3.2), with Bradley Franklin taking second in 13.04. Favour Ofili topped the women’s 200m in 21.74 (2.8), ahead of Mckenzie Long’s 22.01.

Zimbabwe’s Denzel Simusialela won the men’s 200m in a wind-aided 19.84 (3.9), edging Aaron Brown and Tapiwanashe Makarawu, who both ran 19.88. Ajani Dwyer also drew attention in the 100m heats, clocking 9.84 with a 4.0 wind reading.

Tamari Davis won the women’s 100m in 10.89 (2.1), while Shafiqua Maloney and Donovan Brazier claimed the 800m titles in 1:58.72 and 1:44.94, respectively. Rio Olympic champion Brianna McNeal won the 100m hurdles in 12.88 (4.2).

South Africa’s Zeney Geldenhuys won the 400m hurdles in 55.48. Nigeria’s Ruth Osoro took the long jump at 6.76m (2.6). Axelina Johansson won the women’s shot put with a throw of 18.90m, and Roje Stona claimed the discus title at 63.56m.
