MADRID, Spain — Jamaica’s Jaydon Hibbert and Rajindra Campbell will lead the Caribbean charge in the field events when the Meeting Madrid, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, is staged on July 16.
Hibbert, one of the most closely watched young talents in the men’s triple jump, will test himself against world silver medallist Andrea Dallavalle of Italy and in-form Algerian Yasser Triki in what has been assembled as one of the standout matchups on the program. The young Jamaican has established himself among the event’s elite in recent seasons, and a strong showing against two of the world’s premier jumpers would serve as another marker of his rapid rise.
In the men’s shot put, Campbell will renew his rivalry with world indoor champion Tom Walsh of New Zealand and American Payton Otterdahl. Campbell, the Olympic bronze medallist, has consistently proven himself capable of matching the world’s best on any given day, and Saturday’s series in Madrid promises another compelling three-way battle for the top of the podium.
Elsewhere on the field events program, world record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland and European champion Sara Fantini of Italy are both entered in the women’s hammer.
On the track, the men’s 110m hurdles boasts a strong European line-up, with world indoor champion and silver medallist Jakub Szymanski and Spain’s Enrique Llopis facing the last two European outdoor champions, Lorenzo Simonelli of Italy and Asier Martinez of Spain.
In-form Briton Emily Newnham takes on European silver medallist Louise Maraval of France in the women’s 400m hurdles, while Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley and Chile’s Martina Weil headline a competitive women’s 400m field.
